Global Nest Mama: Embracing the Beauty of Cultural Diversity in Parenthood

Global Nest Mama: Embracing the Beauty of Cultural Diversity in Parenthood Parenthood is an ever-evolving journey full of challenges, joys, and moments that shape us as individuals and families. In a world beauty of cultural diversity that is becoming increasingly interconnected, many parents face the unique experiences of raising their children in a different environment than the one they were raised in or being part of a multicultural family. As Global Nest Mama, I believe in embracing and celebrating the beauty of cultural diversity in parenthood and I would like to build a community that welcomes every parent who is navigating the complexities of multicultural parenting, blending different languages and traditions, and raising children in diverse environments. Potentially, we can have a global tribe of parents united by a shared desire to explore, learn, and grow together.Understanding Global Nest MamaGlobal Nest Mama is a mother, but also a virtual community that provides a safe space for parents to connect, share experiences, and discover new perspectives on parenting. We celebrate the richness of cultural diversity, recognizing that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to raising children. Instead, we encourage parents to explore different ways in which people across the world nurture and raise,...

Becoming a Multicultural and Multilingual Parent

Becoming a Multicultural and Multilingual Parent Remember the time before you had kids when you were imagining what kind of a multicultural and multilingual parent you wanted to be? The situations might you face and how would you solve them? Perhaps you even saw someone else’s child and thought to yourself that you would react to it, solve it or deal with it differently. Majority of us have. And then we became parents and quickly realized that the reality of parenthood is often very different from our expectations. In addition to that, our living situation, the country we live in, and the people around us can all be very different from what we had imagined.  The Reality Kicks In For me, I had envisioned having monocultural children who would go to the same schools, and the same parks and live in the same city as I did. They would also have all their family close and be raised like I was. I would have my mom help me raise them because she did a great job with the four of us.  Fast forward to 2022, I had a baby in Dubai, with a husband of a different nationality, roots, background, and a multicultural,...

    Developing Bilingualism/Multilingualism in Children

Developing Bilingualism/Multilingualism in Children Bilingualism is becoming increasingly important in today’s globalized world. Research shows that developing bilingualism/multilingualism in children offers numerous benefits to children, including improved cognitive function, enhanced cultural awareness, and better job prospects. As a result, many parents and caregivers are looking for effective ways to promote bilingualism/multilingualism in their children. If you are one of them, rest assured that there is no better gift you can give your children than the opportunity to be multilingual. In this blog, I will try to point out various techniques and strategies for developing bilingualism/multilingualism in children. Choose a Method Which Works Best for Your FamilyThere are many different methods for promoting bilingualism or multilingualism in children, and the choice of method will depend on each family’s specific circumstances. For instance, in some families both parents speak the same language, but live in a country where another language is spoken (for example: both German parents, living in Dubai). This family might opt for a method where one language is spoken inside the house (German) and the other one outside the house (English). In this way, the child will make a connection and distinguish between the circumstances of using both languages.According to speech,...
